The Department for Education's sustainability and climate change strategy for education states: “By 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan”.
This includes early years settings, schools as well as multi-academy trusts, colleges, and universities.
Creating a climate action plan will allow you to take a structured and strategic route toward ensuring your setting or trust is acting toward, and educating about, sustainability.
About the Climate Ambassadors Scheme
The Climate Ambassadors scheme has been funded by the Department for Education (DfE) to support Early Years and other education settings to take action on Climate Change.
The scheme matches nurseries with Climate Ambassadors who have knowledge and expertise in sustainability, to help them develop and deliver Climate Action Plans.
Emma will talk you through the programme and the support on offer. There will be a chance to ask questions and resources will be sent to you afterwards to get started.
More about the Midlands Hub
The West Midlands Climate Ambassadors Hub is made up of Emma Baines, Regional Hub Manager, and Elizabeth Mathen, Project Coordinator, and is based at Keele University.
There are 100 Climate Ambassadors in the hub who are matched with nurseries, schools and colleges to support them with taking climate action.
Emma's role as hub manager oversees the programme across the West Midlands, ensuring demand from education settings is met by the recruitment of ambassadors in all areas of expertise and locations.
Elizabeth's role supports education settings with their onboarding onto the programme and ensures communications from the hub are sent out to ambassadors and settings - look out for her newsletters and other updates!
