What is the Numicon program?
The program:
- Can be used flexibly alongside your existing resources, as a complete maths programme or to encourage mastery.
- Includes a range of professional development options to suit the needs of your setting
- Has been proven to have a positive impact on children's enjoyment as well as giving them the confidence to demonstrate how and why they arrived at their answer
- Offers support for lesson planning and delivery as well as assessment
- Offers specific support for teaching Early Years and SEND pupils and for catch-up and intervention
Early Number with Numicon is an eight-session programme designed to support practitioners in nursery settings to develop their confidence in delivering high quality, impactful numeracy sessions, based on the Numicon approach. No prior knowledge of maths teaching is needed, and all sessions are designed to be flexible and accessible, mindful of the time pressures and other demands of Nursery life.
Practitioners will be introduced to Numicon resources and pedagogy and given specific guidance to deliver eight separate pupil activities designed for small groups of 3-4 aged children, lasting approximately 15 minutes each. Tips on follow up independent tasks and how to make your environment numeracy-rich are also included in the training
