Why do we need SEND when we already have The Unique Child?

Building on Kerry Murphy’s training, Dominic Gunn will look at how medical models of assessment and intervention have been invaluable but can also lead to deficit, negative perceptions of our young children.

Through case studies and film clips, we will identify how a focussed use of our adult-child interactions and play provision is fundamental to supporting additional needs, while maintaining a positive picture of each individual child.

The session will emphasise that the Early Years curriculum is a sensory curriculum, that developmental delay is ‘a delay’, not a disorder, and it will also present recent understanding of different learning styles, including gestalt processing, particularly within neurodiversity.
