The Early Years Stronger Practice Adviser (EYSPA) programme will deliver targeted support to leaders in eligible settings to boost children’s development, improve outcomes, and narrow the disadvantage gap.
EYSPAs are experienced early years leaders who work in either a ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated setting and have experience of coaching other early years professionals and improving practice.
EYSPAs will support selected settings, coaching early years practitioners in how to make improvements to their setting.
Support will be open to childminders and group-based settings.
Eligibility criteria
Settings must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Setting has received a 'Needs Attention' or 'Urgent Improvement' judgement in any area under the post-November 2025 Ofsted inspection framework.
- Received an overall judgement of 'Requires Improvement' or 'Inadequate' under the previous Ofsted framework.
Settings may also be eligible if they support a significant number of children who:
- Are eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP).
- Access the Early Learning for Two-Year-Olds Offer.
- Have SEND and qualify for additional support.
Settings may meet more than one of the above criteria; hubs will collaborate with Local Authorities to agree on which settings would be best supported by an EYSPA.
