PSED Professional Development Programme

Starting this autumn term 2026, the Thames Valley and Solent Early Years Stronger Practice Hub PSED Learning Lead is running the Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) Professional Development Programme.

We are recruiting 15 Early Years settings per cohort to take part in this fully funded programme. Within these attendance numbers, and depending on demand, we may be able to consider up to two attendees per setting.

The PSED PDP is designed for PVIs, childminders and schools with nursery classes who have 2 to 4 year olds attending their setting. The course content is aimed at Early Years practitioners who are qualified at Level 3 and above.

The PSED PDP, developed by the DfE, is completed over one academic term. It includes five online modules and five seminars, one of which is held face to face. Please note that online seminars will be hosted over Zoom. The course is led by our PSED Learning Lead, Amy Spicer.

Module Overview:

  1. Unit 1: Understanding PSED of children aged 2 to 4 years
  2. Unit 2: Helping children manage emotions and relationships
  3. Unit 3: Helping children process trauma, loss and disruption
  4. Unit 4: Understanding good practice in engaging with parents
  5. Unit 5: Staff wellbeing

Our PSED PDP will run one cohort per term. The cohorts will be open to attendees from across our regions OR will be specified by Local Authority. Spring and summer cohorts will be announced later in the year.
