Exploring the social world of two-year-olds

This blog by Dr Sharon Collilies will enhance practitioner awareness and understanding about how they can support meaningful everyday experiences and resources for promoting cultural capital of two-year-olds. Informed by social construction theory surrounding the importance of relationships (Vygotsky, 1978) Sharon shares her ideas about how two-year-olds use their ‘unique personal identities’ (Colilles, 2020) and behaviour to communicate their thinking abilities and feelings. The blog addresses why it is important to engage with cultural contexts with parents at this significant developmental stage, as well as why how through the vehicle of play culturally appropriate resources (CAR) have the potential to make an impactful difference for the inclusion of ‘all’ children and their families.
