Stronger Together: Reception Year Maths Network

The new reception maths network is a dedicated space for reception teachers and EYFS leads to connect, share best practice and deepen their understanding of early years maths pedagogy.

The group will be led and facilitated by Nathan Crook, who is an early years specialist at our local Maths Hub.  Key topics for discussion will include:

  • Developing a maths mastery approach in early years
  • Progression through the reception curriculum
  • Supporting TAs in maths delivery
  • Linking early maths to the national curriculum

The first online meeting will be on Tuesday 21 October at 4pm.  This network meeting will explore how children can be provided with learning experiences that enable firm mathematical foundations in number to be developed through the earlier part of the Reception year. Ideas shared will be presented in a form through which dissemination of thinking can be shared with wider staff teams. Throughout the network meeting, mastery approach pedagogies will be promoted, which align with provision through which playful maths experiences can be provided to children.
